Film Tactics

I found "film tactics" an interesting film. It showed the different kinds of teachers and teaching methods that are unsuccessful and then clearly documented the "best" way of teaching a new concept. There were many criteria to follow in order to insure that the students will have a positive learning experience. Some of these included proper instruction prior to a media presentation, telling the students what they should be looking for, and a question period following, to name a few.
I liked the exercise that followed the film. It illustrated that instructions are key. Eg. The back row was given a different sheet and were told not to take notes and to pay attention to general observations rather than specific names etc. Depending on what students were told to look for they would take in different information.

Thoughts on the Scavenger Hunt

I really enjoyed the scavenger hunt. I thought it was interesting to use different techniques and search engines to answer the various questions. A favorite of mine is Wikipedia.

From searching on the internet you are able to achieve fast results at the touch of a button. The internet allows you to search for the answers of many different kinds of questions; lyrics, facts, demographic information, documents...

You really have to be careful when using the internet as a source. There is a lot of information posted that is not accurate. From other sources you can get credibility.

All about me!

Hi, my name is Dayna Sutherland.

I am in the A12 Early Years stream of Education at the University of Manitoba. I am hoping to eventually become an elementary teacher (k-4).

I graduated last year from Arts with a Classics major (wooo classics!) and an English Minor. My teachable subjects for Education are General Science and Classics. I have not taken any computer classes in university however I am fairly computer alliterate. I did take a few classes when I was in high school.

With regards to my teaching direction I hope to incorporate various technology mediums into my teaching. Eventually, once I am in a classroom, I would like to give my students a chance experience first hand the technology that is available to them. It is also important to teach them the proper usage of the resources that they are accessing. I thought the quote by Meyrovich talking about the fact that children are traveling around the world through the medium of television before they are permitted to cross the street was very interesting and thought provoking.

Until next time...
